We Can Help Your Little One Smile

We’re always happy to see the youngest members of your family here at Lake View Dental Center; Dr. Shipman is a father of four young kids himself! We offer a variety of children’s dentistry services in a comfortable environment that creates positive associations with dental care. This approach can help your child grow up to have a much healthier grin as they grow. To learn more about how we can help your little one smile, contact us today!

Dental Checkups & Cleanings for Kids

Generally, we recommend that you start having your child attend regular dental checkups by the time their first tooth emerges or by the time they turn one year old. Not only do these visits help your son or daughter get acclimated to the dental office from an early age, but they also let our team monitor their oral health and identify any potential issues in their beginning stages. As your child’s smile grows, we’ll gradually add cleanings and at-home oral care advice to these checkups.

Dental Sealants

Your child will likely have difficulty cleaning their teeth for a few years while they’re still mastering how to brush and floss. Until then, their risk of cavities will be higher, especially in the pitted surfaces of the molars. With dental sealants, we can give these teeth some much-needed protection against decay. It takes mere minutes to apply a thin plastic resin over the chewing areas, creating a barrier that seals out food particles and cavity-causing bacteria for up to a decade.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride can benefit smiles of all ages, but it’s particularly crucial for children because of their increased risk of tooth decay. Regular exposure to fluoride works to fortify the primary teeth, which aids in the development of their permanent teeth. It also strengthens tooth enamel, making it less likely that cavities will occur. We usually provide topical fluoride treatments after your child’s routine cleaning, but we may recommend more frequent applications if we believe they would be beneficial.

Teeth-Colored Fillings

Statistically speaking, your son or daughter will probably experience at least one cavity even with our best efforts to prevent them. Luckily, we won’t need to use dark metal fillings to treat the decay. Instead, we provide tooth-colored fillings made from composite resin. This malleable substance can seamlessly repair dental damage while being barely noticeable in your child’s smile. Further, the resin directly bonds with the enamel, so we can leave more of the natural tooth structure intact.

Athletic Mouthguards

Being active is great for your child’s physical and mental health, but that won’t be the case if an injury breaks or knocks out their teeth. If your child plays basketball, hockey, football, or any other sport with the risk of impact to the face, it’s essential that they wear an athletic mouthguard to protect against oral injuries. Unlike the mass-produced mouthguards from the sporting goods store, the custom guards provided by our dentists are more effective and comfortable, so they’ll keep your little one’s smile safer.
