Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Simmons comes from a long line of dentistry. His great, great grandfather graduated from the first dental school in the U.S., the Baltimore School of Dental Surgery, in 1848, and there has been a dentist in the family ever since! “I worked as a computer programmer after college, but this was not fulfilling. Dentistry called to me, and I have loved my work ever since.”

Dr. Simmons first became interested in dentistry while shadowing his life-long dentist during college. It allowed him to see the physical, emotional, and life-changing transformations dentistry could provide, and he knew he wanted to be able to serve the public by becoming a dentist himself.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Simmons began his college career at Lamar University, and this was followed by earning his dental degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. While practicing full time in Dallas, he continued working in the graduate periodontal department at Baylor, seeing patients in a specialty dry mouth clinic while doing research and authoring a published research paper.

Dr. Simmons continues to expand his knowledge of dentistry though continuing education focused on implant dentistry, sleep dentistry, TMJ therapy, conscious sedation, and orthodontics. Today, he is a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Simmons is an avid cook, so feel free to share your recipes with him, and his other hobbies include golfing, fishing, and exercising.
